Oscar Isaac Will Brings Rock Star-Level Swagger to His Victor Frankenstein in FRANKENSTEIN
Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming take on Frankenstein is shaping up to be something wild, and Oscar Isaac is leaning all the way into it. Entertainment Weekly just dropped a new interview with Isaac that digs into how he’s approaching the legendary role of Dr. Victor Frankenstein.
Del Toro’s version of the story isn’t just about scientific obsession. This time, Frankenstein is haunted by the shadow of an abusive father, played by Charles Dance, which fuels his drive to create life as a way to break free from generational trauma.
It’s heavy material, but Isaac is playing the doctor with a bold and unexpected twist like a rock star commanding the stage. Isaac said:
“When Victor goes into the lab for the first time, Isaac states, ‘He is looking at it like a concert hall, and he is saying, ‘Where do I want my singers? Where do I want the pyrotechnics? Where is all this gonna be?’ So that was a really fun energy.
“Guillermo [said], ‘This guy’s a rock star. He is the rock star of the moment,’ because at the moment, what everyone’s psyched about is these new incredible discoveries in science, and he’s at the frontier of that. There’s like a euphoria around that.”
So yes, Isaac’s Frankenstein is being framed as a rock star of his era, a man who electrifies his world with science the way a guitar god once did with riffs. Del Toro even admitted he looked to late ’60s and ’70s icons like Jimi Hendrix and Prince for inspiration when shaping the vibe.
There’s no denying Isaac is going to deliver a Victor Frankenstein unlike any we’ve seen before. Between Del Toro’s gothic vision, Dance’s chilling presence, and Isaac channeling rock star theatrics, this could be one of the most unique takes on Mary Shelley’s creation to ever hit the screen.
Frankenstein is coming just in time for spooky season, arriving in theaters October 17 before making its way to Netflix on November 7.
