O’Shea Jackson To play Baseball Great Dock Ellis In New Film DOCK

On this day 47 years ago, Pirates player Dock Ellis pitched a no-hitter against the San Diego Padres. That feat in itself is VERY impressive, but it turns out that accomplishment was even harder that it should have been, because 10 years later Ellis revealed that he was super high on LSD when he did it.

Now that incredible story is being made into a movie starring O’Shea Jackson, Jr. (Straight Outta Compton) as the title role of Dock. Deadline reports the role will be a difficult one for Jackson Jr.:

"The role of Dock Ellis is also a meaty one to play for Jackson Jr. The ball player was a colorful character — a highly competitive loudmouth who suffered no fools and called out racism when he experienced it. For instance, when he wore curlers in his hair at a workout, he was forbidden to do so ever again by the MLB Commissioner. Although he complied, he was quick to point out the hypocrisy as the MLB allowed a white player to wear a bad, shoulder-length toupee at the same time.
After a decade-long career in Major League Baseball (he played with the Pirates, Yankees, Athletics, Rangers and Mets), Ellis admitted he had never pitched a game sober and afterwards sought treatment for his alcohol and drug addiction. There is an astute philosophy that every experience you have leads you to what you are truly supposed to be doing in life (in service for others), and that’s exactly what happened here: Because of what he experienced and learned, Ellis dedicated the rest of his life counseling those suffering from substance abuse problems. He specialized in counseling professional athletes."

This sounds like it will be a very entertaining film simply because of the person Dock was. I remember seeing an animated short called Dock Ellis & The LSD No-No at the Sundance Film Festival a few years ago that was all about Dock's no hitter. It is actually VERY funny and is narrated by Dock himself. It will give you an idea of what Dock was like and how crazy his LSD No-Hitter was, I will post it below.

Jackson's father Ice Cube is producing Dock along with David Permut and Jeff Kwatinetz.

They are now looking at directors for the film, no release date has been announced.

In celebration of the greatest athletic achievement by a man on a psychedelic journey, No Mas and artist James Blagden proudly present the animated tale of Dock Ellis' legendary LSD no-hitter. In the past few years we've heard all too much about performance enhancing drugs from greenies to tetrahydrogestrinone, and not enough about performance inhibiting drugs.
