Disney's Oswald The Lucky Rabbit Is Returning For The First Time In 95 Years
Before there was Mickey Mouse, there was Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. This relic of the early days of Disney animation may not have been featured in animation for close to 95 years, but he is certainly still a well loved character. Oswald was suppose to get his own streaming series on Disney+, the designs, scripts, and animation test were done with a pilot in production before the whole thing was shut down.
But now, as part of the year long Disney 100 Years of Wonder celebration, Oswald has made his return to animation. The official Disney Animation Twitter account shared that “Walt Disney's Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is back! For the first time in nearly 95 years, Oswald stars in an all-new hand-drawn short from Walt Disney Animation Studios in celebration of Disney 100 Years of Wonder! #Disney100” along with a new short featuring the rabbit. It is definitely an homage to the early days of Disney animation featuring the fun piano music and the Looney Tunes-esque physics.
Hopefully, this can help open the door for Oswald to get more screen time, I think some kind of feature with him and Mickey would be pretty fun. Or maybe we could resurrect that streaming series that died. As Matt Danner, who’s team was behind the streaming series, said, “Oswald has A LOT of love within Disney. I just wanted to share how serious that love is. I'm sure there will be an Oswald project coming your way in the near future”. Are you excited to see Oswald back?
