PAN'S LABYRINTH Unveils Gorgeous New Poster Art Ahead of Its 20th Anniversary Theatrical Return

Two decades after it first captivated audiences with its haunting blend of fantasy and harsh historical drama, Pan’s Labyrinth is making its way back to the big screen.

To celebrate the film's 20th anniversary later this year, fans will have another chance to experience Guillermo del Toro's masterpiece in theaters, and the celebration has kicked off with a stunning new piece of artwork.

Artist James Jean recently took to X to share an incredible new poster created for the anniversary rerelease. The artwork beautifully captures the dreamlike, eerie atmosphere that made Pan’s Labyrinth such an unforgettable experience.

Front and center are young Ofelia and the mysterious faun who leads her into a world where magic and danger exist side by side.

Along with the artwork, Jean reflected on the lasting impact the film has had on artists around the world, writing: "Guillermo del Toro’s uncompromising vision inspired countless artists, myself included."

It's easy to see why. Even 20 years later, Pan’s Labyrinth remains one of the defining fantasy films of the modern era, blending breathtaking creature design, unforgettable practical effects, and emotional storytelling into something that still feels unlike anything else.

Fans will be able to revisit the film when it returns to theaters nationwide on October 9, 2026. The rerelease will be distributed by Fathom Entertainment from Cineverse and presented in stunning 4K. Select screenings will also take advantage of Barco's 3D and HDR presentation technology, giving audiences an even more immersive way to experience del Toro's dark fantasy world.

The film first premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on May 27, 2006, where it earned a standing ovation after its screening. It later opened in Spain on October 11 before arriving in Mexico on October 20. North American audiences first saw the film in a limited release on December 29, 2006, before it expanded nationwide on January 19, 2007.

Despite being made on an estimated $19 million budget, Pan’s Labyrinth became an international success, earning approximately $83.5 million worldwide. Critics embraced nearly every aspect of the film, from its mesmerizing visuals and practical makeup effects to its cinematography, screenplay, and del Toro's direction.

Its reputation has only grown over time. The film currently holds an impressive 95% Certified Fresh critics score on Rotten Tomatoes along with a 91% audience score. On Metacritic, it earned an extraordinary 98 Metascore and an 8.6 user score, further cementing its place as one of the most acclaimed fantasy films ever made.

In addition to directing, del Toro also wrote the screenplay and produced the film alongside Álvaro Augustin, Alfonso Cuarón, Bertha Navarro, and Frida Torresblanco.

Set in Francoist Spain during the summer of 1944, Pan’s Labyrinth follows Ofelia, a young girl who discovers an ancient labyrinth where she encounters a mysterious faun.

He tells her she is the reincarnation of Princess Moanna from the underworld, but before she can reclaim her true identity and immortality, she must survive three dangerous trials that test her courage and spirit.

Whether you've loved the film since its original release or have somehow never experienced it on the big screen, this anniversary rerelease is the perfect opportunity to revisit one of Guillermo del Toro's greatest achievements.
