PARADISE LOST Is Reportedly Dead as DC Studios Turns Its Full Attention to a WONDER WOMAN Reboot

Back when DC Studios rolled out its Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters lineup at the start of 2023, one of the most unexpected reveals was Paradise Lost, a TV series set on Themyscira long before Diana Prince ever picked up a sword. It sounded like an interesting swing, but fast forward to now, and that swing appears to have missed entirely.

According to a new report, Paradise Lost is no longer moving forward at DC Studios. The project, which was pitched as a political drama rooted in Amazonian history and inspired by Game of Thrones, has reportedly been shelved completely as the studio shifts its priorities to finally rebooting Wonder Woman on the big screen.

When DC Studios first unveiled its ambitious roadmap, fans were quick to notice something strange. Superman and Batman were both getting fresh theatrical starts, but Wonder Woman was nowhere to be found. Instead, the studio introduced a Themyscira-focused series without its most famous resident.

That slate hasn’t exactly had the smoothest journey since then. Several announced projects like The Brave and the Bold, The Authority, Swamp Thing, Waller, and Booster Gold have either stalled or drifted into uncertain territory.

A handful of other titles are still in active development, including Clayface, Man of Tomorrow, Blue Beetle, DC Crime, and Mister Miracle, while the Sgt. Rock movie appears to have faded away.

So where does that leave Paradise Lost? According to insider John Rocha: “Sources are telling me that DC was meeting with writers for Paradise Lost, was taking pitches for Paradise Lost, but they've been informed that the project is dead.

Paradise Lost is dead. [It] will not be happening as a TV show. And not dead in the sense of like, well, they're just going to wait for a script.”

Rocha went on to clarify just how final the decision sounds. “They're being told, these writers and these people who've pitched storylines for Paradise Lost to be the showrunners or the writers on Paradise Lost, they've been told that this project is now dead, no longer an active development.

“Dead. And that is a massive bit of news because I think a lot of people felt that it was a little weird that you were going to do a Themyscira show but not have Wonder Woman in it.”

That shift lines up with what we learned last summer, when Ana Nogueira was brought on to write a Wonder Woman reboot. It’s a move that suggests DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran want to reestablish Diana Prince as a cornerstone of the DCU rather than circling around her mythology.

Nogueira has quickly become one of the studio’s most trusted writers. She was first hired by Warner Bros. to write Supergirl following The Flash. Gunn and Safran kept Nogueira on board to shape their new take on the character.

She’s also penned Teen Titans, which still hasn’t been officially greenlit. Now, it looks like her main focus is bringing Wonder Woman back to theaters, something many fans felt should’ve happened from the start.

A Themyscira series without Wonder Woman always felt like a side quest instead of the main story, but it’s a side quest I would’ve liked to see play out. With DC now putting its energy into a full reboot of one of its most iconic heroes, most fans probably won’t miss it too much.
