New Trailer for the New RUGRATS Series with Premiere Date Later This Month
In case you missed it, Rugrats is making a comeback. The beloved cartoon is being revived with CG-animation and will be released on Paramount+ on May 27. A new trailer for the series dropped with Tommy Pickles saying his catchphrase “a baby’s gotta do what a baby’s gotta do.” I’ll be honest, I’m really not sure how I feel about this revival series. The original voice actors for the babies are reprising their roles, which is awesome, with new voices for their parents, which is honestly fine with me.
The new series will tell "brand-new adventures" meant to "both compliment and evolve the original series' beloved stories." The biggest difference, of course, is that the new series is made with three-dimensional CGI animation. The first episode, fittingly titled "Second Time Around," will feature Tommy leading the babies on a daring adventure to help Chuckie after his big attempt to be brave goes horribly wrong. Somehow, dinosaurs are involved.
My big hang up is the same thing that fans are unsure about: the animation. The new CG direction feels both like an accurate rendition of what the original series would look like given the technology, but also incredibly weird and wrong. I’m sure many fans will get used to the change in animation, but for now it just feels weird.
New episodes of Rugrats will begin airing on Paramount+ on May 27. The voice cast includes E.G. Daily as Tommy Pickles; Nancy Cartwright as Chuckie Finster; Cheryl Chase as Angelica Pickles; Cree Summer as Susie Carmichael; Kath Soucie as Phil and Lil DeVille; Ashley Rae Spillers and Tommy Dewey as Tommy's parents, Didi and Stu Pickles; Tony Hale as Chuckie's father, Chas Finster; Natalie Morales as Phil and Lil's mother, Betty DeVille; Anna Chlumsky and Timothy Simons as Angelica's parents, Charlotte and Drew Pickles; Nicole Byer and Omar Miller as Susie's parents, Lucy and Randy Carmichael; and Michael McKean as Grandpa Lou Pickles.
Are you excited for this revival?
