Paramount Pictures to Turn Rodgers and Hammerstein's THE KING AND I Into New Film
Paramount Pictures have picked up the rights to Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I, which is headed for a big screen remake. This will be the first live action movie remake of the musical since the Oscar-winning 1956 film, starring Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr.
In the classic story, Anna Leonowens sets sail from England for Bangkok, Siam (now Thailand) to take the position of a schoolteacher for the royal court of the King of Siam.
Deadline reports that the remake will draw inspiration from the original musical, as well as real history, and a contemporary update. I am a big fan of musicals and the adaptations that are heading our way this year and next. Keep an eye out for more info, as this is early in development. Are you looking forward to an updated version of The King and I?
