PARANORMAL ACTIVITY is Coming Back With James Wan and Jason Blum Producing
The found footage nightmare that helped redefine modern horror is creeping back into the spotlight. Paramount Pictures is teaming with Blumhouse and Atomic Monster for a brand new Paranormal Activity film, setting the stage for the franchise’s next scare filled evolution.
Fans have been wondering when the series would return and now it is officially happening with some major creative firepower behind it.
Story details are being guarded for now but the project has jumped to the front of the development line for everyone involved. The big headline here is the arrival of James Wan, the filmmaker who kicked off The Conjuring universe and helped shape some of the most successful genre films of the last two decades.
Wan will produce for Blumhouse Atomic Monster, joining franchise creator Oren Peli, who is producing for Solana Films.
Wan shared his excitement, saying, “I’ve been a huge admirer of ‘Paranormal Activity’ since the brilliant first movie, with its creeping slow burn and subtle ability to make the unseen terrifying. I’m looking forward to expanding on its legacy and helping shape the next evolution of this scary found footage franchise.”
Jason Blum is also back in the producer seat alongside Steven Schneider, who will executive produce for Room 101, Inc. Blum reflected on returning to the world that jump started his company in the first place.
“Diving in with James’ for this exciting rebirth of the franchise that started it all for Blumhouse is exactly what we dreamed of when we merged with Atomic Monster. I’ll be actively involved with him to introduce this new chapter.
“Thankfully, we’re able to spend a little more than the 15000 dollars we had on the first movie, but one thing will remain the same do not see it alone.”
The original Paranormal Activity debuted in 2007 and became a runaway phenomenon, earning nearly 194 million dollars worldwide on an ultra low budget. The series expanded quickly with Paranormal Activity 2, Paranormal Activity 3, Paranormal Activity 4, The Marked Ones, The Ghost Dimension and the most recent chapter, Next of Kin, released in 2021.
Across its seven films, the franchise has scared up more than $900 million globally and carved out a permanent place in horror history.
Paramount Pictures co-chairs Josh Greenstein and Dana Goldberg expressed their enthusiasm about the creative team leading the revival.
“We’re thrilled to reignite the iconic ‘Paranormal Activity’ franchise with two of the horror genre’s most visionary talents, James and Jason.
“Jason’s role in shaping this franchise into a global cultural touchstone, together with James’s singular taste and track record for innovative storytelling, sets the stage for a thrilling new chapter.”
A fresh chapter of Paranormal Activity is officially on its way. With Wan and Blum guiding the return of one of horror’s most influential series, maybe they will deliver another genuinely scary flick.
