Parker Posey Returns to Horror With Blumhouse's Creepy New Movie SLEEPOVER
Parker Posey is heading back into horror, and this time she's teaming up with Blumhouse for a creepy new movie titled Sleepover. After delivering one of the most entertaining performances in Scream 3, it's great to see Posey returning to the genre for another round of scares.
The new comes from Varietya nd Atomic Monster, and Universal Pictures are also producing. The movie will be directed by Jacob Chase, who previously helmed Come Play and Insidious: Out of the Further. Chase also co-wrote the screenplay with Bryce McGuire, who came up with the original story.
McGuire has plenty of experience with horror, having worked on Baghead, Night Swim, and Dolly. With Chase and McGuire joining forces, it'll be interesting to see what kind of nightmare they've cooked up.
Jason Blum is producing the film and plot details are being kept secret, and there's no word yet on who else will join Posey in the cast. The title Sleepover certainly gives us a little tease that the movie might be looking to turn an innocent overnight gathering into something seriously disturbing.
Posey already has some memorable horror roles under her belt. She played the wonderfully ridiculous Jennifer Jolie in Scream 3, a Hollywood actress portraying Gale Weathers in the fictional Stab movies. She also played vampire CEO Danica Talos in 2004's Blade: Trinity.
Of course, Posey's career extends well beyond horror. She's appeared in films such as Dazed and Confused, Josie and the Pussycats, You've Got Mail, Inside Out, Grace of Monaco, and Beau Is Afraid.
On television, she's appeared in Lost in Space, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and The White Lotus, with her performance in the latter earning her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
More recently, Posey joined the cast of Wild Horse Nine, a black-comedy political thriller written and directed by Martin McDonagh. The film also stars John Malkovich, Sam Rockwell, Steve Buscemi, and Tom Waits. She's also preparing to host the Hulu reality competition series The Mob.
Posey has always been a fun actress to watch, especially when she's playing eccentric characters, and horror gives her plenty of room to have a good time. Her involvement alone makes Sleepover worth keeping an eye on.
We'll have to see what Blumhouse has planned for this one, but bringing Posey back to horror sounds like a pretty great start.
Sleepover arrives in theaters on October 8, 2027.
