Patrick Stewart is Close to a Deal To Return as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in New STAR TREK Series
Last week we learned that CBS was developing five new Star Trek series with Alex Kurtzman, who is the new showrunner of Star Trek: Discovery. One of the series that was mentioned was a sequel series to Star Trek: The Next Generation in which Patrick Stewart would reprise his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard.
When the news was first reported, it said the deal with Stewart was far from a done deal. But a new report from Mirror suggests that it's a lot closer to being finalized. They say that the actor is "close to securing a deal" to return as Captain Jean-Luc Picard for a continuation of the Generation series. A source tells them that there's a verbal agreement in place:
"Patrick is looking pretty good to get back on board the Enterprise. There are some aspects of the deal to be finalised, but there is a verbal commitment from all parties."
Stewart did say in a previous interview that he would reprise his role if the opportunity presented itself:
"Absolutely... if it were a really good script. But, the poor soul is getting old and long in the tooth. He would probably need some help mounting his horse unlike the youthful captain of 30 years ago."
Well, it sounds like something is coming together that the actor is happy with. The report goes on to say that, "There are animated series also in the works, and Patrick could easily lend his voice to them."
So, it could be animated or live action. I hope that it's a live action series. I'd definitely be more interested in that, but if it does end up being animated, of course I'd watch it!
I hope that this news ends up being true and that we get an official announcement soon! Would you be excited to see Stewart back in the role of Captain Picard in a new Star Trek series!?
