Patrick Stewart Shuts Down Retirement Rumors That Claim AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Could Be His Final Film
Tony, Emmy, Golden Globe and Grammy nominated actor Patrick Stewart is a classically trained icon of an actor, who has graced several fan favorite universes, most notably the Star Trek and Marvel franchises, as well as tons of voice roles.
Stewart, who turns 86 next week, is returning to the role of Professor Charles Xavier aka Professor X in the upcoming MCU event film Avengers: Doomsday, and some have been speculating that this may be his last role. But the prolific actor has shut down those rumors in a recent interview with TVInsider, where he said:
“As any actor my age will tell you, there are fewer and fewer available roles as we get older. That being said, I still continue to receive interesting offers and I love being challenged by new work, like voicing a pig’s head in Riz Ahmed‘s brilliant new series Bait. I can’t imagine ever officially ‘retiring.’ I’ll always and forever be an actor.”
Stewart is a welcome addition to every project he’s a part of. It was assumed he probably wouldn’t be back in the role of Professor X after Marvel took over the X-Men with the intention of a reboot, but it’s very cool that we get to see him one more time before he hands over the reigns to someone that will hopefully come close to filling his shoes.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theatres on December 18th.
