Director Patty Jenkins (Monster, Wonder Woman) has made a three-year, $10 million deal with Netflix to create some new series for the streamer. The deal comes at a time that the director is finishing up her sequel to the 2017 film, Wonder Woman, which was the first female-directed film with a budget over $100 million, which paid off, as the film garnered critical and fan acclaim, as well as making over $800 million worldwide. The sequel is entitled Wonder Woman 1984, is highly anticipated by fans, and is set to hit theaters on June 5th, 2020.

Jenkins has had a great streak in the film business and has had directing credits on great series as well, such as Arrested Development, Entourage, and the mini-series I am the Night. This sounds like an exciting deal for Jenkins, as she has a keen eye for projects. Jenkins said in a statement:

“I’m so excited to embark on a great journey of making the new world of television with a company and group of people I admire as much as Ted [Sarandos], Cindy [Holland], Channing, Peter [Friedlander] and the team at Netflix. I look forward to digging in to some great work together soon.”

Channing Dungey, VP Original Series added:

“We’re thrilled to welcome Patty Jenkins to Netflix. Her trailblazing work has pushed boundaries and she confidently tells stories that leave an unforgettable mark. We look forward to fostering her many ideas and helping them come to life.”

I look forward to seeing what original content she brings to Netflix.
