Patty Jenkins Refutes Claims That She Walked Away From WONDER WOMAN 3
After it was announced that Wonder Woman 3 was no longer happening because it “did not fit in with the new (but still unfolding) plans,” a report surfaced that Jenkins quit the project after she received notes on her treatment from the WB and DC studio executives. It was said that “her threequel pitch had character arc problems which rivaled that of Wonder Woman 1984.”
It was also explained that Jenkins “fought back and defended her vision that the threequel’s character arcs were solid. Jenkins was given the opportunity for another pass, but opted to walk.”
Now Jenkins is refuting those reports saying, “Sigh… I’m not one to talk about private career matters, but I will not allow inaccuracies to continue.” She went on to share her side of the story:
“When there started being backlash about WW3 not happening, the attractive clickbait false story that it was me that killed it or walked away started to spread. This is simply not true. I never walked away. I was open to considering anything asked of me. It was my understanding there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time. DC is obviously buried in changes they are having to make, so I understand these decisions are difficult right now.
“I do not want what has been a beautiful journey with WW to land on negative note. I have loved and been so honored to be the person who got to make these last two Wonder Woman films. She is an incredible character. Living in and around her values makes one a better person every day. I wish her and her legacy an amazing future ahead, with or without me.”
So according to Jenkins, it sounds like Warner Bros. and DC Studios just aren’t interested in Jankins’ version of Wonder Woman at this point. This just fuels the speculation that there’s a good chance James Gunn and Peter Safran will be taking the DC Cinematic Universe in a completely new direction.
We’ll just have to wait and see, but one thing seems certain, and that’s that Jenkins will not be returning to make another Wonder Woman movie.
