Paul Feig Is Directing New Horror Thriller DETENTION for Blumhouse Atomic Monster
Paul Feig has another project lined up, and this one takes him even deeper into horror. While he's already set to return for The Housemaid’s Secret, the filmmaker has also signed on to direct a mysterious new horror movie titled Detention for Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Platinum Dunes.
It's an unexpected but exciting move for Feig, who seems to be embracing the genre after finding success with The Housemaid.
According to Deadline, Detention is based on a spec screenplay by Daniel Gold, though fans hoping for story details will have to keep waiting. The project is being kept under wraps, with no plot information revealed at this point.
Even without a synopsis, there's already a good reason for horror fans to pay attention. sources say “the film will be a horror thriller, which excited Feig, who, after successfully directing global hit The Housemaid this past Christmas, wanted to try something even darker.”
That certainly sounds like Feig is enjoying this new creative direction. Best known for comedies like Ghostbusters and Bridesmaids, he's proven he can successfully jump between genres, and now it looks like he's ready to push further into darker territory.
Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller, Cameron Fuller, Paul Feig, and Laura Fischer are all producing Detention, with Steven Schneider serving as executive producer.
There's currently no studio officially attached to distribute the film, but sources say “Universal likely will get a first crack at it given its relationship with Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse Atomic Monster.”
With Blumhouse Atomic Monster involved, a filmmaker eager to explore darker material, and Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes helping bring it all together, Detention already has the ingredients of a horror movie worth keeping an eye on.
Hopefully it won't be long before we learn what this mysterious horror thriller is actually about.
