Paul Feig May Direct Mindy Kaling's New Comedy Film

Mindy Kaling is on quite a run right now. Since getting her start as a writer/actor on The Office, she's launched her own show (The Mindy Project, which is still going strong on Hulu) and is now about to appear in two major movies: the heist movie Ocean's Eight and Disney's A Wrinkle in Time. But she's also written a screenplay specifically so she can star in her own movie, and now that project may have found a director.

Variety reports that Spy, Bridesmaids, and Ghostbusters: Answer The Call director Paul Feig is in "serious talks" to direct the untitled movie. The comedy is set in the world of late night television, and Kaling will star opposite Oscar winner Emma Thompson. Not much else is known about the story at this time, but this trio uniting for a movie is an appealing prospect. Feig has established himself as a filmmaker who loves working with and championing funny women, and Kaling and Thompson certainly fit the bill. I'm also a sucker for stories set in the late-night TV scene, and Kaling has idolized Conan O'Brien for years, so hopefully we'll get a good insight into her comedic sensibility here.
