Paul Feig To Direct an Adaptation of The Fairytale Fantasy Novel THE SCHOOL FOR GOOD AND EVIL For Netflix
Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters, A Simple Favor) has signed on to direct an adaptation of Soman Chainani’s fairytale fantasy novel The School For Good and Evil for Netflix. The script for the film will be written by David Magee (Life of Pi) and Laura Solon.
The story follows the adventures of best friends Sophie and Agatha at the School for Good and Evil, “where ordinary boys and girls are trained to be fairy tale heroes and villains. Sophie has princess aspirations and expects to be picked for the School for Good and Agatha seems a natural fit for the villains in the School for Evil. Yet soon the girls find their fortunes reversed, putting their friendship to a test.”
The School For Good and Evil is the first novel of a six-book series that was launched in 2013. I’m not really familiar with it, but it sounds like a fun story. The plot seems to have some similarities to the Wizard of Oz prequel story Wicked. The author said in a statement:
“To have one of your favorite directors adapt your book into a film for Netflix is an honor and a dream. Paul Feig is a brilliant filmmaker and a master of tone — a perfect fit for the twists and turns of ‘The School for Good and Evil.’ I have no doubt that he will make a true fairy tale classic.”
This should be an interesting project for Feig to take on as it’s a different kind of movie than anything he’s made before. While I didn’t care for his Ghostbusters movie, I have enjoyed other films that he’s made such as Bridesmaids, Spy, A Simple Favor, and I even kind of enjoyed Last Christmas. Hopefully, he’s able to live up to the expectations of the author of the books!
