Paul Feig Would Love to See His Ghostbusters Come Back and Crossover One Day With the Originals and/or the New Crew
In 2016, we got a new Ghostbusters movie from director Paul Feig that starred Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth. I thought the movie was funny and had great effects and my kids still watch it regularly. But unfortunately, it got a bad rap from haters that didn’t like the gender-swapped story. Even Jason Reitman, director of the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and son of original Ghostbusters director, Ivan Reitman, was supportive of Feig’s branched off story.
Feig was recently on a panel for the Television Critics Association, and he talked a bit about his movie, and if there is a future for the characters and story he created:
“I hope. What’s so great, in the comic book world, they’ve done a lot of crossover ones where there’s like an interdimensional rip and our team joins up with the original Ghostbusters. So the fact that that’s already been laid and made comic book canon, anything could happen so who knows. I would love to see that team come back. We had so much fun making that movie, for whatever controversy it caused. The fact that so many kids love that, that we won the Nickelodeon Best Movie of the Year Award that year makes me very happy.”
I hope he does get to continue their story, whether that would mean a sequel, or the more likely option of integrating them into a future film in the universe of the new Ghostbusters. Ghostbusters is a story that could be told by so many different types of people, in different times or places in the world. It’s about ghosts! And it shouldn’t be limited to the same people in the same formula of storytelling.
I’m very excited for the upcoming film, though. I think it will be a fun continuation and will hopefully keep the franchise moving forward.
What do you think?
