Paul Rudd Just Remade His 1991 SNES Commercial for NINTENDO SWITCH 2 and It’s Awesome
We all know Paul Rudd as the eternally youthful funnyman who’s charmed his way through rom-coms, Marvel mayhem, and basically every awkward moment in between. But long before he became a popular A-list star, Rudd’s first step into acting stardom was… a Super Nintendo commercial.
Back in 1991, a teenaged Paul Rudd starred in a now-legendary SNES ad that leaned hard into the cinematic drama. It opens with fog machines on overdrive, moody synth horror music, and Rudd wearing a black trench coat, approaching a giant outdoor screen. He boots up the Super Nintendo and starts playing.
Now, 34 years later, Rudd is back where it all started. Nintendo just dropped a new commercial for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, and it’s a straight-up love letter to that original ad.
Rudd steps into the role again with the same coat, same music, and same eerie vibes. But, everything around him is upgraded and modern.
The Switch 2 ad works on so many levels, it’s a nostalgia bomb for longtime fans, a wink to Rudd’s roots, and a reminder that Nintendo knows exactly how to play the long game. This is so much fun!
