Paul Rudd Shares His "Nice Quiet" Road Trip Movie Idea For ANT-MAN 4
Marvel Studios wanted Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania to deliver some huge stake for the MCU. This is the movie that kicked off Marvel’s Phase 5 and it does a great job setting up the exciting future of the MCU, especially with the villain Kang.
I imagine one day we’ll see a fourth Ant-Man movie, but that’s not coming anytime soon. When the film does happen, though, Paul Rudd has an idea that would be a much quieter film and the stakes in it would be much lower.
During an interview with Yahoo UK, Rudd was asked if they had any plans for ideas for a fourth movie, and he said:
“[When] I think about it, it’s like this regular guy who has no innate super ability whatsoever has now gone head-to-head with Thanos and Kang. I just feel like, cut the guy a break. Just let him sit on a beach somewhere. How much abuse can he take? How much punishment?”
Rudd went on to explain that Scott Lang is a dad who is really just looking to spend time with his daughter, and his pitch is to let that happen. He wants to see a story of Scott and Cassie going on a little road trip together. He explained:
“I do think this is a guy who really just wants to spend some time with his daughter. That would be nice. Maybe a nice quiet road movie. Just Scott and Cassie taking in a coastal city and just spending time [together]. Maybe like The Trip with [Steve] Coogan and just those where there’s no threat. There’s nothing wanting to kill them. I don’t know if Marvel would want to make that movie but it would be fun to shoot.”
Honestly, a story like that is actually interesting to me! Marvel will never do it, but a story like that would add so much more weight to these characters. There really is a fun, playful, and smart idea here to play with, but this is a story that Marvel will never do. They will always focus on stories that offer big stakes, big action sequences, and silly dialogue.
