Paul Thomas Anderson to Write PINOCCHIO for Robert Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr.'s Pinocchio film project just nabbed itself an incredible screenwriter. Paul Thomas Anderson, the man behind films such as Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood, and The Master has signed on to write the screenplay for the film.

Even though he's only writing the script at this point, there's a good chance that he could direct the movie as well, which would be incredible! The guy seems to always direct the films he writes, so hopefully that trend continues with Pinocchio

Downey is set to play Geppetto in the story, which as you know is about a wooden puppet who wants to become a real boy. This is definitely a different kind of project for Anderson to take on, but that just makes it even more intriguing.

The previous draft of the script was written by Michael Mitnick. The film is set up at Warner Bros., and this is the first film project that Anderson has attached himself to since Inherent Vice. Disney also has a competing Pinocchio film in the works, so we'll see which one hits theaters first.
