Paul Walter Hauser Gives THE FANTASTIC FOUR a 3.5 Star Review - "I Wish That They Hadn't Cut My Scene"
Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actor Paul Walter Hauser (Black Bird, Richard Jewell, Cobra Kai) made his Marvel debut in the summer blockbuster, The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Like some of his co-stars in the film, his role was cut short, as the film was heavily edited. They final film ended up completely losing the character played by John Malkovich, and there were many scenes and storylines that felt chopped and incomplete.
I loved a lot about the movie, but this was an issue for many fans, including Hauser himself, who took to Letterboxd to write his own review.
The actor awarded the film with 3.5 stars, and said of his experience:
"I love the score, the production design, the performances. I wish they hadn't cut my scene with Vanessa Kirby, but I'm stoked that I got to be in a Marvel movie (first world problem shit; I'm spoiled rotten to get to act). Excited to follow the Franklin story!!! #FantasticFive"
It’s too bad that we didn’t get to see more of Hauser, more of Natasha Lyonne’s character, or any of Malkovich. The film could have honestly been a series, and I would have been happy to see it all play out. Hopefully next time we see them, we get a bit more story.
