PEACEMAKER Season 2 Just Kicked the DCEU to the Curb and Retconned the Justice League

Peacemaker is back with a bang, and James Gunn wasted no time making some big moves in the opening episode of Season 2. If you’ve been keeping track of the DC movie timeline or still clinging to the memory of the Justice League line-up with Henry Cavill, you might want to brace yourself. The DCU has officially drawn a line in the sand, and the old DCEU? It’s history.

The first episode picks up where the last season left off, but it rewrites everything. In a cleverly retooled flashback sequence titled “previously in the DCU,” we’re reminded of the final battle from Season 1, but this time the Justice League is gone and replaced by the Justice Gang.

No Ezra Miller, no Jason Momoa. Instead, we get silhouettes that now include Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner. The shot mirrors the original scene but swaps out legacy DCEU stars with new DCU players.

Gunn is clearly planting the flag for his new Gods and Monsters era, and he's not leaving things ambiguous. The Justice Gang is now canon, and Peacemaker is part of this reshaped universe.

One of the more surprising additions was eeing Milly Alcock’s Supergirl, who joins David Corenswet’s Superman on the team. If her brief cameo in Superman had you thinking she’d be more of a free spirit than a hero, her new squad membership says otherwise. Unfortunatley, Metamorpho, who seemed like a lock after Superman, is nowhere to be seen in this roll call.

Also worth noting is the newly revealed friction between Peacemaker and Guy Gardner. Gunn even filmed an extra scene just to explain their beef. As teased in the Season 2 trailer, both Gardner and Hawkgirl show up during Peacemaker’s “job interview” to join the Justice Gang. Whether or not he makes the cut remains to be seen, but the setup is hilarious and totally in line with the show's irreverent vibe.

With the multiverse already in play from the first season, anything can happen from here on out. Cameos, twists, wild character crossovers, nothing's off the table.

New episodes of Peacemaker Season 2 are dropping every Thursday on HBO Max.
