Peacock Cancels Its Series Adaptation of the Fantasy Book JADE CITY
Peacock has canceled its series adaptation of the award-winning fantasy book Jade City, which is the first novel in the Green Bone Saga. The project was announced back in 2020, and it was being developed by screenwriter and producer Dave Kalstein (NCIS: Los Angeles, Treadstone) and The Expanse director Breck Eisner.
Jade City is an “epic saga of magic and martial arts where two rival clans will fight to the bitter end for love, honor and power. Set in an Asia-inspired fantasy metropolis reminiscent of 70s Hong Kong, jade holds mystical powers and our two warring families will fight to the end over its control.”
The news of the cancellation comes from the book’s author Fonda Lee, who shared on social media, "Sad to share that after years in development, Peacock has decided not to move forward with the TV show of Jade City. It's a big disappointment. But we're looking for a new home for the project, and I have faith someone else will share the vision of the Kaul family onscreen."
Lee has described the story as "a gangster family saga set in a modern era Asia-inspired fantasy metropolis where rival clans vie for control of territory, business, and magical jade that endows those who wear it with superhuman martial arts powers."
There’s no reason given as to why the project was canceled, but it doesn’t mean the adaptation won’t happen, as they are looking for a new home to bring this story to life.
