Peacock Has Ordered New Comedies From Tina Fey and THE GOOD PLACE Creator Mike Schur
NBC’s new streaming service Peacock has made a lot of announcements this week, including the series order of the SNL spin-off, MacGruber, starring Will Forte, and the release of a new teaser trailer for the upcoming Saved By The Bell sequel series that is coming soon to the streamer. Now they have broken the news that they have ordered a slate of two new late-night shows, as well as two new comedy series from some big hitters in comedy writing.
The two late-night shows will be headlined by Amber Ruffin (Late Night With Seth Meyers) and Insecure c0-creator Larry Wilmore. Each of these series is set to launch in September.
The first of two comedy series the streamer ordered is called Girls5Eva, which is being executive produced by Tina Fey, and stars Grammy winner and Broadway star Sara Bareilles as “Dawn, former member of the short-lived 90s girl group Girls5Eva, who is now a bit restless in life managing her family’s small Italian restaurant in Queens. When the opportunity arises, Dawn reluctantly gets the band back together for a Girls5eva reunion and it might just be exactly what she needed.” The series follows the reunion of the members of a one-hit-wonder girl group from the ’90s as they “give their pop star dreams one more shot.”
The second comedy series is coming from The Good Place creator Michael Schur. He is creating the show Rutherford Falls, starring Ed Helms and Sierra Teller Ornela. The series is set in “a small town in upstate New York and the Native American reservation it borders,” both of which “are turned upside down when local legend and town namesake, Nathan Rutherford (Ed Helms) fights the moving of a historical statue.”
These all sound like great projects that will help to beef up the streamer with even more content for viewers to enjoy. Do any of these new shows appeal to you?
