PEAKY BLINDERS Creator Steven Knight Confirms the Story Won’t End with Netflix Film

The Peaky Blinders universe isn’t closing its doors just yet.

Series creator Steven Knight recently appeared on BBC Breakfast and revealed that the upcoming Netflix film, which serves as a continuation of the hit gangster drama, has officially wrapped production.

While he teased that it would be a fitting conclusion to this chapter, he made it clear that the Peaky Blinders world will live on in some form.

Knight talked about the film’s progress, saying: “We’re putting it together now. I would say this, wouldn’t I? But it’s fantastic. We’ve got the best, I think, the best British actors all in one place, including Stephen [Graham].”

With filming completed on December 13th and early footage is already exceeding expectations. Knight said: “The stuff that I’m watching – the rushes, the assemblies – no one will be disappointed. It is quite an incredible thing. It’s a very fitting way to end this part of the Peaky story.”

When asked if the film would be the final installment, Knight shared: “This part, yes. I’m not allowed to announce it, but I’m just saying that the world of Peaky will continue.”

So, while the film may serve as a major milestone in Tommy Shelby’s journey, it won’t necessarily be the last we see of the Peaky Blinders universe. Whether that means another movie, a spin-off, or a full-fledged new series remains to be seen.

The film, written by Knight, brings back Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, alongside a star-studded cast that includes Barry Keoghan, Rebecca Ferguson and Tim Roth.

There are still no story details, but Knight did say at one point that the story would be set during World War II. We’ll just have to wait and see what the story will entail.

Knight talked about the film in the past, saying: “The film, I know exactly what it’s about. And I know what two stories it’s going to tell. What will happen after that, I want that to depend on the film. For all we know somebody is going to pop out – I think I know who it’s going to be.”

Meanwhile, Knight has another big project on the horizon. His new drama, A Thousand Blows, debuts this Friday on Disney+ in the U.K. and Hulu in the U.S.
