PEAKY BLINDERS Creator Steven Knight Set to Create Six-Part Adaptation of GREAT EXPECTATIONS for BBC and FX

Steven Knight, creator of the hit TV series Peaky Blinders as well as Taboo and See, is teaming up with BBC and FX to make a six-part adaptation of the classic Charles Dickens tale, Great Expectations. Knight will write and executive produce the limited series. Tom Hardy, who worked with Knight on the film Locke as well as Peaky Blinders and Taboo, will also executive produce alongside Ridley Scott, Dean Baker, David W Zucker, and Kate Crowe.

Knight told Deadline:

“Adapting Dickens’ work is a delight. I chose Great Expectations as the next work to bring to the screen not just because of the timeless characters, but also because of the very timely story. A story of class mobility and class intransigence, told through an intensely emotional and personal first person narrative. As the son of a Blacksmith myself, Pip’s journey from the forge into society is a very special one to me.”

Great Expectations will be Knight’s second adaptation from a Dickens classic, following last year’s A Christmas Carol. I was in the play Great Expectations in high school, and it was pretty brutal. A three hour snooze fest if I’m being honest. But maybe actual actors will make the story more exciting. Are you interested in this adaptation?
