PENNYWISE: THE STORY OF IT Documentary Picked Up By Cinedigm
I grew up on the 1990 TV mini-series adaptation of Stephen King’s IT. I love that adaptation and Tim Curry's version of Pennywise The Clown scared the shit out of me!
There’s a documentary that’s been made titled Pennywise: The Story of It, and it explores the making of the series and an in-depth look at the creation of Curry’s monstrous clown. Well, this doc has now landed distribution, so we’ll actually have the opportunity to watch the film!
Cinedigm has picked up all North American rights to the film, which premiered at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival in Spain in the fall and at FrightFest in the UK in October.
The doc was co-directed by John Campopiano (Unearthed & Untold: The Path to Pet Sematary) and Christopher Griffiths (Leviathan: The Story of Hellraiser), the doc includes “interviews with many of the key players behind Pennywise, as well as an exploration of what went into creating the IT films, including casting, production, and practical effects.”
Yolanda Macias, Chief Content Officer at Cinedigm said in a statement: “From red balloons to yellow rain jackets, the groundbreaking miniseries pushed boundaries and still has a lasting impact on the genre to this day. Even three decades after its release, It and the child-eating clown Pennywise scares audiences of all ages. We are excited to take horror fans on this terrifying journey back to the not so sleepy town of Derry.”
The filmmakers added: “We’ve had some exciting news in terms of distribution of the documentary. Without this distribution deal we were unable to complete the post production an in turn release the project officially. As soon as physical copies are made available to our pledgees, they will be the first to receive. As always we appreciate your support and patience.”
Cinedigm will release on TVOD platforms including Apple, Prime Video, Google and VUDU, as well as on horror streaming channel Screambox, this summer.
