PERCY JACKSON Author Expresses His Hatred For The Film Franchise and Says The Disney+ Series Will Fix Everything

The author of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians book series, Rick Riordan, was not happy with the film adaptations that were produced by 20th Century Fox. In fact, he down-right hated the films and he made his disappointment for them clear in a series of Tweets that he sent out recently. He’s obviously excited for the Disney+ series though, and believes that the series will fix everything.

Finally, I still have not seen the movies, and don't plan on ever doing so. I judge them from having read the scripts, because I care most about the story. I certainly have nothing against the very talented actors. Not their fault. I'm just sorry they got dragged into that mess.

Well, he’s certainly not sugar coating anything. He’s being very open and candid with his thoughts on how his work was handled with those films, and he should be! It’s fun when people get open on honest about their feelings!

Riordan previously shared his frustrating experience with turning his books into film on his website. Here’s a part of an e-mail that he sent to the producers of the film with notes on the script for the first movie and he tears into them!

“The script as a whole is terrible. I don’t simply mean that it deviates from the book, though certainly it does that to point of being almost unrecognizable as the same story. Fans of the books will be angry and disappointed. They will leave the theater in droves and generate horrible word of mouth. That is an absolute given if the script goes forward as it stands now. But the bigger problem is that even if you pretend the book doesn’t exist, this script doesn’t work as a story in its own right.”

It doesn’t surprise me that the producers wouldn’t listen to him. Some Hollywood producers think they are smarter than the creators and they think they can do it better. Obviously, that didn’t work out for them very well in the end.

I’m sure that Disney will end up delivering a great adaptation that the fans of the book will love.
