Pete Davidson's SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE Hosting Debut Canceled Amid Writers' Strike
Actor Pete Davidson (The King of Staten Island) was set to return to Saturday Night Live this Saturday for his hosting debut, with musical guest Lil Uzi Vert. But the show has unfortunately been canceled amid the writers’ strike.
Davidson spent eight seasons at SNL, and after his departure last year, he was set to return to promote his upcoming series, Bupkis, which also stars Joe Pesci as Davidson’s grandfather, Edie Falco as Davidson's mom, Charlie Day, Brad Garrett, Simon Rex, Jon Stewart, Ray Romano, Kenan Thompson, Chase Sui Wonders. The series is described as a "heightened fictionalized version of Pete Davidson's real life." The series is said to combine “grounded storytelling with absurd elements from the unfiltered and completely original worldview for which Pete is well known.”
Davidson’s appearance on SNL will have to be rescheduled at this point, and the final two episodes of the season after this week’s will also remain up in the air until the strike is resolved.
ith the writers' strike occurring, several productions are feeling the impact of the movement involving a dispute between the Writers Guild of America's (WGA) labor union and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).
Late-night shows like The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Late Night with Seth Meyers are airing repeats while on hiatus. This Week Tonight with John Oliver, Real Time with Bill Maher and The Daily Show are also on break.
Also feeling the heat are scripted shows like Abbott Elementary, Yellowjackets and Cobra Kai. Meanwhile, production on shows like The View and House of the Dragon is continuing despite the strike.
