Peter Capaldi Makes It Very Clear That He Does Not Care About Actors Like Tom Cruise Who Do Dangerous Stunts
In a recent candid interview with Doctor Who actor Peter Capaldi, he didn’t hold back sharing his views on the high-octane death-defying stunts that some actors like Tom Cruise have personally performed in some of their big action films. While a guest on the podcast Off Menu, Capaldi said:
"F–k that, too, I mean, all of that kind of stuff. Who cares? Really: who cares? No. Don't make me uncomfortable. I'll pretend to eat an octopus. That's all we gotta do; who cares? You know, I love Tom Cruise; he's great. I don't really care that he strapped himself to a Hercules bomber and went up there. I don't really care that he's on a motorbike and he comes.... I don't care. You know? It's great, and it's terrific, and he's a lovely man, and it's really sweet and all that. I don't care… I admire it. It’s a film; who cares?”
I personally love the fact that Cruise does that kind of stuff! It’s so cool and so crazy that he is willing to put his life on the line to entertain his fans. How can you not respect that!? The guy is an entertainer and he’s putting everything he’s got into these movies. He’s putting in that extra effort that a lot of other actors don’t do.
Jackie Chan did the same thing with the insane stunts in his martial arts films, and even Buster Keaton was doing that kind of stuff back in the silent era of films. Several other actors have performed their own stunts. I love Capaldi, but while he doesn’t care about actors who do this kind of stuff, audiences do care. There’s a lot to appreciate from actors that go the extra mile. Most actors aren’t built like that, and that’s ok!
