Peter Dinklage Lashes Out at Disney for Their Live-Action SNOW WHITE Remake - "A F-ing Backwards Story About Dwarfs"
Disney is in the process of developing a live-action remake of its classic animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, and Peter Dinklage is not happy about it. During a recent interview on Marc Maron’s “WTF” podcast, Dinklage lashed out at Disney criticizing the remake due to the fairytale’s “fucking backwards” depiction of dwarfs.
The actor shared, “There’s a lot of hypocrisy going on. Literally no offense to anyone, but I was a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White. But you’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me.”
The Latina actress that will play Snow White in the film is West Side Story star Rachel Zegler. Dinklage went on to say, “You’re progressive in one way but then you’re still making that fucking backwards story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together, what the fuck are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough. I don’t know which studio that is but they were so proud of it. All love and respect to the actress and all the people who thought they were doing the right thing. But I’m just like, what are you doing?”
Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer, The Amazing Spider-Man) is directing the Snow White movie, and production is expected to begin sometime this year. There’s no word on what Disney is planning for the film in terms of the Dwarf characters, but that might end up changing after Dinklage’s comments go viral.
Dinklage also noted that he would love it if they were to retell the fairytale with “a fucked up, cool or progressive spin on it.” Not sure if Disney will do anything considered “fucked up,” but we’ll eventually see what they have planned.
Disney is obviously making the movie for the money, but it’s a story that doesn’t really need to be retold again. What do you think about Dinklage’s comments?
