Peter Dinklage to Star in Director Joe Wright's CYRANO Musical Film Adaptation for MGM
MGM is set to produce new film with director Joe Wright (Darkest Hour) titled Cyrano, which is a musical film adaptation of Edmond Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac.
Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage is set to take on the title role, which he has already played on stage alongside Haley Bennett (The Girl on the Train, The Devil All The Time), who is also set to reprise her role in the film. Brian Tyree Henry (Child’s Play) and Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One) will also star in the film.
The musical was written by veteran director, writer and stage actress Erica Schmidt, who also happens to be Dinklage’s wife. Schmidt wrote the libretto, and the music is by The National’s Aaron Dessner and Bryce Dessner, with lyrics by Matt Berninger and Carin Besser, who has contributed to many of the band’s songs. The National’s Dessner most recently produced Taylor Swift’s Folklore album.
Wright’s most recently completed shooting Amy Adams in the film The Woman in the Window which is moving from Disney to Netflix.
We’ve seen this story adapted several times in several different ways over the years. It’s a classic story, and one of my favorite adaptations was Steve Martin’s Roxanne. This project has a fantastic cast, though, and for that reason, I’ll be watching it! Dinklage as Cyrano is inspired casting.
