Peter Jackson's THE FRIGHTENERS Is Being Developed as a TV Series with Charlize Theron Producing

Peter Jackson’s crazy 1996 film The Frighteners is currently being developed as a potential series. The news comes from Bloody-Disgusting, which reports that Charlize Theron is looking to produce it through her Denver and Delilah Productions, which also produces David Fincher’s Mindhunter.

I love The Frighteners! It is such a strange, dark, and wonderful horror/adventure film. The movie starred Michael J. Fox as a man who finds he is able to communicate with the dead after his wife dies in a tragic car accident. He uses this ability to con people, but when a demonic spirit appears, he may be the only one who can stop it from killing the living and the dead. The movie also starred Jake Busey, Dee Wallace, Jeffrey Combs, and the late R. Lee Ermey.

According to the report, the production company has been developing this series project over the past year, and they are also looking at the possibility of making another movie. It’s said that this new take on the story might be “stripped of humor.”

I enjoyed the mix of humor and horror that the original film had. That’s what made the film so different and unique from the other movies being released at the time. But I’m open to seeing a new interpretation of the story. I hope that whatever they are planning works and ends up being a great series worth watching. Only time will tell.

What do you think about The Frighteners being developed as a TV series?
