PETE'S DRAGON Director David Lowery Wants To Make a TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Movie
I am not a big fan of the most recent live-action/CG Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies. In my opinion, they were awful. If you disagree with me, that's cool. I know some people enjoyed the films. I just wasn't one of them.
Personally, I wouldn't care to see any more TMNT movies made from this franchise. But, I would be open to a complete reboot with a talented director at the helm! Did you see the live-action adaptation of Pete's Dragon? It was a wonderful film! Well, the guy who made that, David Lowery, is actually interested in making a TMNT movie.
During a recent interview with Uproxx, Lowery talks about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze and says he would make a Ninja Turtles movie if given the opportunity.
"I would do a Ninja Turtles movie … I thought Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze was the best movie ever when that came out. I went back and watched that and I was like, oh man, I feel so bad for my parents for having to sit through this three times with me. I bought the soundtrack on cassette."
On top of Pete's Dragon, Lowery has made some very dramatic films such as Ain't Them Body Saints and most recently Ghost Story. But he also knows how to make a fun heartfelt family movie, so it's not hard to see Lowery taking on something like Ninja Turtles. He goes on to talk about the last film that came out, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, saying:
"The second one actually felt like a literal recreation of the cartoon. It was so true to the cartoon. Even with Krang flying away at the end, saying, ‘I’ll be back’ – like shaking his tentacle at them. It was so goofy, but I liked it."
See! He even liked that movie! Regardless, I think he'd be able to make a better movie. I can't imagine Lowery making a goofy film like that. What do you think? Would you like to see Lowery make a TMNT film one day?
