Phil Lord and Chris Miller Are Set To Develop Multiple Marvel Shows For Sony Pictures
Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, The LEGO Movie) have signed a five-year deal with Sony’s television studio to develop several animated and live-action series.
The shows they develop are said to feature multiple genres, but the projects that fans will be most excited about are the Marvel projects that they will be producing. Those Marvel projects will be set in the world of Spider-Man and they will continue to explore the world that was created for Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.
There’s been talk about multiple spinoff shows for sometime now that will focus on different characters from the Spider-Verse following the adventures of Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Ham, and more. Some of these TV projects could be completely separate from that animated film, though. Who knows, maybe there will be some shows that connect to the live action universe.
There are no details on what projects they’ll exactly be working on, but Lord and Miller had this to say in a statement:
“We are so grateful to everyone at Sony Pictures Television for choosing to partner with us and expand our enduring relationship with the studio. Together we aim to make groundbreaking work of the highest quality and integrity, and to place that work in convenient proximity to your eyeballs and earholes, wherever you may be.”
Mike Hopkins, chairman of Sony Pictures Television added:
“This is a significant milestone for our television business, having the opportunity to work with two of the most creative forces in the industry in both our film and television businesses. Building on our strong IP and creating new franchises has been a key focus for SPE, and the best way to do that is to invest in remarkable storytellers like Phil and Chris. We are thrilled to welcome them to the SPT family, and I want to thank Jeff [Frost], Chris [Parnell] and Jason [Clodfelter] for all their hard work in pulling this deal together.”
I’m excited to learn that Lord and Miller will be developing these projects for Sony. It means that the high-standard and quality that was set with Into The Spider-Verse will continue with these upcoming shows. The shows will also continue to be produced with Amy Pascal, who oversees all projects connected to Marvel at Sony.
