Phil Lord and Chris Miller Share Details About Their Unproduced MEN IN BLACK and 21 JUMP STREET Crossover Film
Once upon a time Phil Lord and Chris Miller were developing a crazy crossover film that would have combined Men in Black and 21 Jump Street. This was a real project at one point, but Sony Pictures never ended up moving forward with it. But, it did come very close to happening!
All these years later the filmmakers are talking about the film that got away and shared some details on Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum’s wild sci-fi adventure. While appearing on the Happy. Sad. Confused podcast, Lord explained:
“It’s true that there have been a lot of these things developed. There was, believe it or not, a Men In Black/Jump Street crossover script that was very funny and very crazy that we really adored. Basically, the idea was Jonah and Channing, a thing happened while they were doing their medical school adventure that got them embroiled into the world of Men In Black and that got them teaming up to stop an alien takeover type of thing. It was very funny, it was crazy trying to manage these two franchises and not drive them both into the ground seemed like a real challenge.”
Miller went on to share:
“One of my favorite ideas was the Men In Black, the Black Suits were like martial arts belts that you had to work your way up to black and [the Jump Street guys] were issued powered blue Men In Black suits.”
The film would have been titled MIB 23 and James Bobin (The Muppets, Alice Through The Looking Glass) was looking to direct. Sure, it might have been completely stupid, but there’s a chance that it also would’ve been a ton of fun! It probably would have been better than that forgettable Men in Black: International movie with Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson.
