Phillip Seymour Hoffman's Son Cooper Hoffman Stars in Paul Thomas Anderson's 1970s Set Coming of Age Film
Paul Thomas Anderson has cast Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s son Cooper Hoffman in his latest film project, which is a 1970’s set coming of age story. This film is Hoffman’s debut performance.
Hoffman stars in the film as a teenage actor at the center of the story, “which involves multiple storylines and is set in the San Fernando Valley.” It’s explained that while the project will feature an ensemble of actors, including Bradley Cooper, Hoffman is the star of the film, with Alana Haim of the band Haim.
This is pretty damn cool. As you know, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Anderson were long-time collaborators, and he had a role in pretty much all of Anderson’s films such as Hard Eight, Boogie Nights, Punch Drunk Love, Magnolia, and The Master. I love the fact that Anderson is passing the torch to Hoffman’s son.
It was also recently confirmed that Benny Safdie (Good Times, Uncut Gems) has been cast in the film as well. His character was reportedly inspired by real-life Los Angeles Council member Joel Wachs, a closeted gay man with a larger-than-life personality who didn’t come out until the late 1990s.
