New Photo of Alicia Vikander in TOMB RAIDER and She Reveals New Lara Croft Details

I can't wait to see Alicia Vikander's Tomb Raider reboot! I love that she was cast in the role of Lara Croft and today we have a new photo to share with you of her hanging off of the side of a cliff! The photo comes from EW, who also had a chance to speak to the Academy Award winning actress. During the interview, she opens up about her character and reveals some new information regarding how she'll be portrayed in the film.

“She has all the fierce, tough, curious, intelligent traits, but we’ve stripped away all of her experience. She hasn’t gone on an adventure just yet. She thought he was a stuck up business person living in the modern youth culture of suburban London, but then this whole box of information. This is the beginning.”

This is an incredibly interesting take on the character. I love that she will be thrust into a crazy dangerous adventure with no prior experience under her belt. That will bring a different dynamic to the character that, I think, will make her and the story even more interesting. She goes on to talk about the stunt work she performed in the movie saying:

“Just like in The Wave, we have a lot of water sequences, I spent my last two days of shooting in a tank and that was my 16th total day being fully drenched or submerged in the water…For one action scene, we used the London venue for Olympic rafting. They threw me down that river — with my hands tied — about 50 times. I didn’t need to act, just react!”

Well, that sounds like fun! Maybe that will be a recreation of the river scene from the game that you can watch below.

I really hope this movie turns out to be great. Tomb Raider is being directed by Roar Uthaug (The Wave) and it also stars Walton Goggins as Father Mathias Vogel; Daniel Wu as Lu Ren, the ship captain who helps Lara in searching for her Father; Dominic West as Lord Richard Croft, Lara's deceased archaeologist father; and Hannah John-Kamen as Sophie, Croft's flatmate and best friend.

Here's the official plot synopsis that was released:

“Seven years after the disappearance of her father, 21-year-old Lara has refused to take the reins of his global business empire, instead working as a bike courier in London while taking college classes. Eventually she becomes inspired to investigate her father’s disappearance and travels to his last-known location: a tomb on an island somewhere off the coast of Japan. Suddenly, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Lara, who—against the odds and armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit—must learn to push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown. If she survives this perilous adventure, it could be the making of her, earning her the name Tomb Raider.”

The movie hits theaters March 16th 2018.
