Photos and Details Revealed For Some LAST JEDI Deleted Scenes Include Luke Mourning Han and More

Star Wars: The Last Jedi was the longest film in the Star Wars franchise, and it could've been a lot longer had director Rian Johnson not cut out a bunch of deleted scenes. For those of you who are interested in knowing what some of these deleted scenes entailed, we have some photos from them and some details to share with you thanks to Entertainment Weekly.

Luke Skywalker mourns Han Solo

One of the main deleted scenes that was cut features Luke mourning the death of Han. We never really got to see Luke or Leia take time to think about the death of their friend. The scene with Luke would have taken place in his hut as you can see in the image above. While he is going through this, the scene would have cut to Leia sitting in a similar pose which suggests the brother and sister were having a moment of grief for their fallen friend together. As for why the scene was cut, John said:

"We realized just for pacing in that section we had to stick with Rey and Luke, and we wanted just to go straight from him slamming the door of the hut into the day-in-the-life montage, of him going around the island. Taking that bit out suddenly propelled us forward into that segment in a way that just felt much better for the film.
"I was very sorry to lose it. I think it’s a beautiful performance from Mark Hamill. But I think that we get a similar beat with him, later when he’s in the Falcon with R2."

Rey Leaves a message for Finn

As Finn is struggling with the decision to abandon the Resistance, BB-8 rolls up and shares a hologram of Rey with him in which she offers him an emotional goodbye. Johnson says the hologram was a way to remind the audience of Rey and Finn’s friendship since they wouldn't be together through most of the movie:

“I was looking for any opportunity I could to emotionally connect those two,” the director says. “I thought it was a really sweet little scene. I loved John Boyega’s performance in it. Ultimately it was meant to explain his motivation for going [to find Rey and quit the Resistance], but we realized that you understood his motivation, because he tells it to Rose. Once we realized we could get away without it, it was something that just naturally fell away.”

The sequence would have ended up with a little joke where Finn turns to BB-8 and says, "That’s kind of creepy you recorded that."

Finn and Rose's Supremacy Infiltration and Cover Up

There's a point in the film where Finn and Rose are on a mission aboard Supreme Leader Snoke's Supremacy mega star destroyer. At one point during this sequence, Finn is recognized by a Stormtrooper who starts chatting it up with him in an elevator. That Stormtrooper was supposedly played by Tom Hardy

"Sneaking through the mega-destroyer, there’s some really fun stuff in there. It just made me laugh every time I saw it. But you can see very obviously when you watch the movie as a whole, there’s no way you would want to slow down at that part of the film to play that whole section."

The Stormtrooper ultimately recognizes him, "Finn realizes that the First Order has covered up his defection and role in helping the Resistance destroy Starkiller Base. Rather than sound the alarm, the good ‘ol boy trooper just has a hearty laugh that his old troopmate FN-2187 was promoted to officer status ahead of him." Johnson goes on to explain:

"The implication from the exchange is that this was obviously an embarrassment that this happened with Finn, and that First Order didn’t let the info get out, as much as they could. The tension is broken by the fact that he doesn’t really know the story of what happened with Finn."

Everything that was deleted from the film had to be cut to keep the pace of the movie moving forward. It makes sense why some of these scenes were cut, but it still seems like Mourning Han is a pretty important part that was cut out. I wish they would have at least kept that scene in.

What do you think about these scenes that were cut from the film?
