Photos: Charlie Hunnam Carries a Big Sword as Guy Ritchie's KING ARTHUR

After dodging a bullet by bailing on Fifty Shades of Grey, former Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam decided to suit up as King Arthur for director Guy Ritchie. Seems a little bit more like his style, don't you think?

The first in what Warner Bros. hopes will be a six film franchise, King Arthur tells a more down and dirty, scrappy origin story for the man who pulls the sword from the stone.

Orphaned as an infant and raised by three prostitutes in the 5th century version of London, this Arthur is more of a street-wise hood, who looks after the people living in his tiny corner of the world. “He’s a little bit rough around the edges, but he’s basically a survivor. He’s a hustler,” Hunnam says. “He’s a street kid. There’s definitely a harder edge to him than people would imagine. It’s sort of classic Guy Ritchie stuff.”

But for those who are thinking this is going to be a straightforward Ritchie movie, just set back in ancient Camelot, think again: there will be all sorts of crazy elements on display here, including "giant snakes, massive war elephants, and a monstrous viking-like creature known as The Nemesis." Sounds intense. Check out these new photos of Hunnam wielding Excalibur on the set, and be sure to head over to EW to see the full gallery of images. Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur arrives in theaters next summer.
