Pierce Brosnan Says He’d Play James Bond Again If They Asked Him To

There’s been plenty of speculation about who will step into the role of James Bond next. With Denis Villeneuve attached to direct, Steven Knight writing the script, and Amazon eager to revive its billion-dollar spy franchise, it's only a matter of time before the announcement drops.

Names like Jacob Elordi, Harris Dickinson, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are getting tossed around, but Pierce Brosnan is also up for taking on the role again!

Brosnan, now 72, famously suited up as Bond in GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day. And while most fans (and probably studio execs) expect the next Bond to be decades younger, Brosnan himself is surprisingly ready to jump back in.

When asked by Radio Times if the world was ready for “a senior citizen 007,” he responded with some charming self-awareness and just enough teasing to stir the pot.

“My wife Keely [Shaye Smith] and I have been listening to the drumbeat of expectation of who’s going to be the next James Bond. There are many great candidates out there, and I’m sure they’re going to make it a spectacle of delight.

“I don’t think anyone wants to see a craggy, 72-year-old Bond, but if [next 007 director Denis] Villeneuve had something up his sleeve I would look at it in a heartbeat. Why not? It’s great entertainment. It could be lots of laughs. Bald caps, prosthetics… who knows?”

Now, unless Amazon wants to go full wildcard with James Bond: Retirement Protocol, this is probably just a fun what-if. For context, the oldest Bond on screen was Roger Moore, who was 58 during A View to a Kill. So, the math isn’t on Brosnan’s side.

Still, imagining a cheeky, elder-statesman Bond has its appeal. Maybe not as the canonical 007, but a sly, genre-savvy twist in a original spy caper? I’d watch that! Brosnan’s still got the charm, and apparently, the interest.
