Pixar Fan Spots Weird Coincidental Easter Egg in the Opening Sequence of UP
Eagle-eyed fans are always finding new Easter eggs and hidden gems in our favorite films. One of the latest observations comes from a Pixar fan on Reddit who posted something they caught onto while watching the film Up.
The opening sequence of the movie draws viewers in, telling us the story of Carl and Ellie from the day they met as children, through their love story and lives, all the way up to when Ellie passed away, which is where the rest of the story begins. Those first few minutes of the movie are so touching, they are thought of fondly by some as the sweetest love story ever told, at least in Pixar.
But there is a weird Easter egg that was caught by a viewer, in which they notice two characters who seem to be the same person. Redditor u/wietpeukjes explained:
"Just rewatched Up. Is the priest that marries Ellie and Carl also the doctor that brings them the news Ellie can't have kids?"
They posted these side-by-side photos below:
These two characters definitely do look exactly the same! Some of the possible explanations for this given by users in the comments include that the character models used in animated movies for background characters are often reused, or another user theorized the two characters are twins! While one of these options points to a careless mistake, and another points to a super-intricate backstory for these animated background characters, I guess we may never know. Unless the animators would like to comment on the newly found connection.
