Pixar's LIGHTYEAR Will Be Voiced by Chris Evans; First Image and Video Title Card
The avalanche of news out of Disney continues. Pixar is making a movie titled Lightyear, which will be "the definitive story of the original Buzz Lightyear." Directed by Pixar veteran Pete Docter (Up, Monsters Inc, Inside Out) the title character of Buzz will be voice by Chris Evans.
It's clear from the art released on the Pixar Twitter account that this not be the story of the Buzz Lightyear toy we've come to love and voiced by Tim Allen. Casting a different actor with star power and massive geek-cred like Evans is brilliant and a way of differentiating the toy Buzz and the human Buzz.
Pixar giving us the story of the "real" Buzz Lightyear has me super excited. Especially with a clear nod to 2001: A Space Odyssey in the aforementioned art and more space movie references sure to come.
Lightyear will land in theaters June 17, 2022. (Shoutout to anyone who was a fan of the short lived 2D series Buzz Lightyear of Star Command.)
