Play All of the Core METROID Games on Nintendo Switch When METROID FUSION Comes to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass This Week

When Nintendo launched Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games for Nintendo Switch Online and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass, one game revealed for the future was Metroid Fusion. Now, Nintendo has revealed that you will be able to play that title on March 8! This is pretty substantial because that means that starting March 8, you can play all five core Metroid games on the same console. The original Metroid is on NES, Metroid II is on GB, Super Metroid is on SNES, Metroid Fusion on GBA, and Metroid Dread on Nintendo Switch. Metroid Fusion is a fantastic game. Here’s a quick synopsis.

In Metroid Fusion, interstellar bounty hunter Samus Aran is attacked by an X parasite while exploring the mysterious planet SR388. This organism is not only deadly, but it can mimic the abilities of any creature it infects – including Samus herself! Saved from the brink thanks to an infusion of Metroid DNA, the X parasite’s only natural predator, she soon discovers that the parasite has spread to the research station orbiting SR388. Weakened and out of options, Samus must do whatever it takes to destroy the X threat before it’s too late.

Embark on this critical mission alongside Samus and experience classic Metroid gameplay while exploring a massive research station teeming with hostile life forms. Collect power-ups – including favorites like Morph Ball and Screw Attack – uncover a multitude of secrets and experience the adventure that links Super Metroid™ to Metroid Dread. But be wary, because the dreadful SA-X, an unstoppable X parasite mimicking Samus, is on the loose … and it’s coming for you.

In the lead up to Metroid Dread, I went through and played all of the mainline games in the Metroid franchise. I did substitute Metroid and Metroid II with their remakes Metroid: Zero Mission and Metroid: Samus Returns respectively, but it was a fantastic experience. The games are all absolutely amazing and worth playing. While Metroid Dread is my favorite, Metroid Fusion is a close second and I cannot recommend it enough. The games have depth, but don’t take too long. I was able to get through all four in about two months.

Are you excited to play all of the core Metroid games on the Switch? Which is your favorite? Will you be going through and playing all of them again?
