PLAYMOBIL: THE MOVIE Actually Looks to Have Some Potential
The LEGO Movie did the unthinkable. It made us care about characters designed 100% to sell toys. That movie was a lot better than it had any business being and I’m now really excited for the sequel. However, it looks like someone else wants to make their playsets into a blockbuster success. Playmobil: The Movie has released its first trailer and it is taking a different approach to the concept. This time, instead of everything actually being toys in a child’s imagination, it appears it has more to do with kids being sucked into the magical world of Playmobil. That being said, the trailer actually looks decent.

As she sets off on a fantastic journey across stunning new worlds, Marla teams up with some unlikely and heroic new friends - the smooth-talking food truck driver Del (Jim Gaffigan), the dashing and charismatic secret agent Rex Dasher (Daniel Radcliffe), a wholehearted misfit robot, an extravagant fairy-godmother (Meghan Trainor) and many more. Through their vibrant adventure, Marla and Charlie realize that no matter how life plays out, you can achieve anything when you believe in yourself!”
Yeah, Daniel Radcliffe is in this. That means that at least half the Harry Potter fandom will see it out of obligation, but I think we’ll be pleasantly surprised. Of course, it could go the complete opposite direction and be a giant turd, but I’m choosing to be optimistic about it. Aside from Radcliffe, the voice cast includes Gabriel Bateman, Jim Gaffigan, Adam Lambert, Anya Taylor-Joy, Kenan Thompson, and Meghan Trainor.
Playmobil: The Movie is currently set to release on August 16, 2019.
