Plot Details Emerge For George Clooney's New Film SUBURBICON
Back in December, we wrote about how Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, and Julianne Moore were in talks to star in Suburbicon, George Clooney's upcoming directorial project that was written by the Coen Brothers. At the time, the only plot details we had were vague: all we knew was that it was a noir drama set in the 1950s, and it would be in the vein of the Coens' Blood Simple.
Now The Wrap has confirmed that both Damon and Moore have closed their deals to star in the film, though there's no official word yet on Clooney's Hail, Caesar! co-star Brolin. The outlet also managed to uncover some legitimate plot details beyond the vague description we've had up until this point:
[The movie] is set in the quiet family town of Suburbicon, where the best and worst of humanity is hilariously reflected through the deeds of seemingly ordinary people. When a home invasion turns deadly, a picture-perfect family turns to blackmail, revenge and betrayal.
That sounds very much like a Coen Brothers movie, and it'll be interesting to see if Clooney, who has acted in four of their films now, can bring their words to life in a compelling way. His directorial output (Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Good Night, and Good Luck., Leatherheads, The Ides of March, and The Monuments Men) has been sketchy for me so far, but he's clearly a competent filmmaker, so hopefully this is a project that will rise to the top of his filmography in terms of quality.
