Plot Details Revealed For Canceled SAW XI Sequel
The Saw franchise has had its fair share of twists, both on-screen and behind the scenes. Now, thanks to long-time producer Oren Koules, we know a little more about what Saw XI could have been before it was ultimately scrapped.
In a recent interview with ComicBook, Koules opened up about the project while promoting his new thriller Trust. He confirmed that the eleventh film would have picked up immediately after Saw X, saying:
“We had everybody in, including Synnøve [Macody Lund], coming back from Saw X. She’s amazing. The script that we had was going to take place 30 seconds after Saw X ended.”
That’s interesting, considering Saw X was designed as a midquel sandwiched between the original 2004 film and its direct sequel. The movie followed John Kramer’s desperate search for a cancer cure in Mexico, only to discover that Cecilia Pederson’s medical operation was a con.
Jigsaw returned in full force, exacting revenge through his signature brand of traps, seemingly leaving no survivors.
However, an alternate ending revealed Cecilia escaping Kramer’s grasp, paving the way for her return in Saw XI. Koules confirmed this would have been the direction of the story, but the project collapsed due to internal disagreements.
He explained that a “difference of opinion” between himself and fellow producer Mark Burg at Twisted Pictures is what ultimately shut it down.
This aligns with comments from screenwriter Patrick Melton, who co-wrote the script with Marcus Dunstan. Melton previously said the film’s cancelation had little to do with the story itself, clarifying:
“It has nothing to do with the creative or anything else. There’s higher-level things at play.”
This is just a little glimpse into what could have been another brutal chapter in Jigsaw’s saga. With Saw XI off the table, the franchise continues to evolve in other directions, but for fans, it’s intriguing to imagine what horrors would have unfolded just thirty seconds after the last film faded to black.
