Plot Details Revealed for the Disney+ Series Reboot of THE MIGHTY DUCKS

A couple of years ago it was reported that Disney was going to be developing a series reboot of the beloved 1990s sports franchise The Mighty Ducks for ABC. That project is now being produced for Disney+, and we have some plot details to share with you today thanks to our friends at /Film.

They managed to get their hands on a pre-production breakdown of the series, which revealed the following logline for the show:

After getting kicked off the junior division Mighty Ducks team, a 13-year-old boy and his mom decide to start their own team, finding players, a coach, and a place to play.

As you can see, this story is very different from the plot of the movie, which centered on a lawyer named Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez) who was forced to coach a Peewee hockey team as punishment for drunk driving. He hates the idea of this going into it, but through it, rekindles his love for the game and he ends up really caring for the kids he coaches.

I guess it makes sense that Disney and the creators of the series wouldn’t want to retell the same story for the film. It seems like the Mighty Ducks is already an established team when the story for this series picks up, so maybe this will serve as a sequel in a way that could bring back one of two of the original cast members. That could be cool!

I enjoyed watching the original films when I was growing up, so I hope that this new series is able to capture the same magic and spirit of the movies. Steven Brill, who wrote the original three Mighty Ducks films and produced both of the sequels, is on board as an executive producer, so he can help steer the series in the right direction.

It was also revealed that the series will be shooting in Vancouver from February 10, 2020 until June 1, 2020.
