POKEMON TCG Announces Sword & Shield—Fusion Strike Expansion
The Pokémon Company International has announced a new game play mechanic in the Pokémon TCG, Fusion Strike Style, set to launch November 12, 2021.
This new style will focus on teamwork and having your Pokémon boost each other while in play together. Decorated with a hint of pink and purple, these new cards will be available in booster packs, Elite Trainer boxes, and special collections.
Players can expect 25 new Fusion Strike cards including Mew VMAX, Genesect V, and Hoopa V. In addition, players can play with the following cards:
20 Pokémon V and 13 full-art Pokémon V
Eight Pokémon VMAX
20 Trainer cards and seven full-art Supporter cards
One Special Energy card
Participating Pokémon TCG retailers will have Sword & Shield—Fusion Strike Build & Battle Boxes starting October 30, 2021. Each box will contain four Sword & Shield—Fusion Strike booster packs; a 23-card Evolution pack featuring key cards from current and prior sets, including one of four alternate-art promo cards; and a deck building tip sheet.
Starting November 26, 2021 players can get Build and Battle Stadium which will contain two Build and Battle boxes, four additional Sword & Shield—Fusion Strike booster packs, and 121 Energy cards, various Pokémon TCG accessories, and a storage box. I haven’t played the Pokémon TCG for a long time, but this looks like a pretty exciting update for the game.
What do you think, is this a long overdue mechanic or just a cheap looking gimmick?
