POKEMON TCG is Introducing a New Mechanic in SWORD & SHIELD - BATTLE STYLES Expansion
This March, the Pokémon Trading Card Game is going to be introducing a new mechanic called Battle Styles. Pokémon can now use Single Strike or Rapid Strike styles to get an edge in battle. Accompanying Trainer and Energy cards will also be available in each style to create further synergy. Single Strike Style cards have a hint of red to them are all about being quick and powerful while Rapid Strike Style cards have a blue hint and are designed to be sneaky and implement more technical attacks.
Trainers will be able to collect, trade, and play with Battle Style cards—such as Single Strike Urshifu V, Rapid Strike Urshifu V, Single Strike Tyranitar V, and Rapid Strike Empoleon V—in the new Sword & Shield—Battle Styles expansion from The Pokémon Company International. In addition, Trainers can look forward to seeing Single Strike Urshifu VMAX and Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX in their Gigantamax forms, as seen in The Isle of Armor expansion for the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield video games.
This new mechanic will first be implemented in Sword & Shield – Battle Styles which releases on March 19, 2021. Here’s what fans can expect from the expansion:
60 Battle Style cards
12 Pokémon V and 16 full-art Pokémon V
Six Pokémon VMAX
19 Trainer cards and six full-art Supporter cards
Two Special Energy cards
